NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Yale women's tennis team's 2017-2018 season came to a conclusion earlier Sunday afternoon with a 6-1 loss to the Columbia Lions (12-8, 4-3 Ivy). The Bulldogs finished the year with a 6-18 record (0-7 Ivy).
The Lions proved they would be a tough match for the Bulldogs from the getgo, winning all three doubles matches by identical 6-4 scores. Despite losing the doubles point without winning a set, the Bulldogs were able to keep the matches close, losing each by a single break.
Singles continued to go Columbia's way. Elizabeth Zordani and Sarah Cameron lost by identical 6-3, 6-1 score in the 4 and 6 matches, respectively. Caroline Amos lost by a reverse 6-1, 6-3 score; after three singles matches, Columbia clinched the victory and led 4-0. Samantha Martinelli capped off an impressive first year with a 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 victory, gutting out a third set super tiebreak. Valerie Skhlover and Amy Yang were both on the wrong end of two tight straight set losses as well.
Even though this is the final appearance on the court for the team, there will be plenty of action off of it in the coming weeks. Several team awards will be announced, as well as next year's captain.
