Several members of the Yale men's tennis team advanced past the second round of singles in the ITA Northeast Regional Championships at Penn.
 
On Saturday, the Elis began the day with convincing victories in two of the three third round doubles matches, with senior captain Dylan King and sophomore Michael Sun defeating Army 8-2 while senior Ryan Cheng and junior Cody Lin taking down Sacred Heart 8-4 before falling to Princeton in the next round.
 
In singles play, first years Louis Siegler and Robby Shymansky were bested by Columbia and Princeton, respectively, in two straight set matches. However, the Bulldogs then quickly turned the tide back in their favor with a 6-4, 7-5 victory from Lin while King got off to an early lead in the third set on the next court. King would storm away with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-0 victory and all attention shifted towards Sun's match against Dartmouth. At 5-5 in the third set, Sun blistered several backhand returns to break serve and was able to close the match out after serving a near perfect game to give Yale its third singles win of the day.
 
On Sunday, Lin and Sun both fell in straight sets to two tough opponents from Buffalo and Penn, respectively. King came out on top over Brown in a close straight set win but would ultimately be defeated by Columbia in the second singles match of the day.
 
Despite a difficult end to the tournament, King's presence in the round of 16 as well as several other teammates in the round of 32 speak to the Bulldogs' presence in the Ivy League thus far, but also to the improvements they can make before the start of the spring season.
