No. 25 Bulldogs Strike Early, Take Down Northeastern

Quevedo, Lagos Score For Yale

Yale has shown the ability to strike quickly throughout what has been a very successful season. The Bulldogs took it to another level Tuesday at Northeastern, scoring seven minutes into the first half and just 29 seconds into the second half en route to an impressive 2-1 win over Northeastern on a rainy and chilly night in Boston.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak with both losses coming in overtime.

"I'm really happy with the response from the team after a couple of tough results on the road," said Kylie Stannard, The 5K Corral Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "Even though we played well in those games, we wanted to make sure we didn't let the disappointment carry over to this game. I think the guys were excellent with their mentality."

Aldo Quevedo got it started when he snuck a shot inside the post from 25 yards out at 7:07. The goal was assisted by Sigfus Arnason.

It remained 1-0 until very early in second half. That's when Ryan Matteo sent a long ball forward to Eric Lagos, who outraced a defender and slipped a shot past Northeastern goalkeeper Chandler Kree at 45:29. It was the first career goal for Lagos, a first year.

The Huskies answered just 35 seconds later to pull back within one, but Yale's defense was stingy the remainder of the way, limiting Northeastern to very few scoring opportunities.

The Bulldogs outshot the Huskies 16-7. Northeastern managed only one shot on goal in the game.

With Yale playing its third road game in a little over a week, 17 different Bulldogs saw action.

"It's great to see our depth be able to really help tonight with some very important, quality minutes," Stannard said.

Yale, ranked No. 25 in the College Soccer News top-30 national poll, improved to 10-2-2 on the season, reaching double figures in victories for the first time since 2005.

The Bulldogs, who sit in first place in the Ivy League at 3-1, close out the regular season with three straight league games, starting Saturday at Columbia. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.

"It's great to get back into the win column," Stannard said. "Now, we will turn our attention to another tough road test at Columbia."
