Final Road Game Brings Yale To Columbia

Bulldogs Still Very Much In Thick Of Ivy Race

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's soccer team plays its final road game of the regular season on Saturday at Columbia. Kickoff at Rocco B. Commisso Stadium is slated for 5 p.m.
 
Here are notes on a very important Ivy League matchup.
 
* With two games remaining, Yale is very much in the thick of the race for the league title. At 4-1, the Bulldogs are tied with Harvard for second place, three points behind first-place Brown. Yale and Brown meet next Saturday at Reese Stadium to close out the regular season. The Bears host Penn this Saturday. Harvard hosts Dartmouth on Saturday and then is at Columbia to close out the regular season.
 
* The Bulldogs (11-3) are seeking their most overall wins in a season since the 2005 team won a school-record 15 games.
 
* The Bulldogs have won four straight games and nine of their last 10.
 
* Yale is 5-2 away from Reese Stadium this season.
 
* Senior Aerial Chavarin leads the Bulldogs with seven goals, which is third in the Ivy League. In her career, Chavarin has 24 goals and 60 points.
 
* Emily Yin was named to the Ivy League Honor Roll on Monday. Yin scored the game-winning goal in Yale's 1-0 victory at Penn last Saturday.
 
* The Bulldogs have yielded only two goals in five Ivy games.
 
HISTORY LESSONS
 
Yale's last trip to New York City was a 1-0 victory in 2017. Aerial Chavarin scored the only goal on a penalty kick with 56 seconds left in the second half, and goalkeeper Alyssa Fagel made five saves to post the shutout. Columbia earned a 2-0 win at Reese Stadium last year. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 21-8-5.
 
SCOUTING COLUMBIA
 
The Lions (8-3-3, 2-1-2 Ivy) are in the midst of a strong season. They are unbeaten in their last four games, including draws with Princeton and Dartmouth in their last two. Columbia has outscored its opponents 21-13 on the season. Jessica Schildkraut leads the team with 10 points (2 goals, 6 assists).
