Yale's four-game winning streak came to an end with a 3-1 loss at Columbia. Emily Koe, Jordyn Geller and Shira Cohen scored to lead the Lions.
Â
Aerial Chavarin had the Bulldogs' goal, her team-leading eighth of the season.
Â
The three goals were the most Yale has allowed in a game this season.
Â
"A disappointing night for us, but part of that has to do with the performance that Columbia put in against us," said
Brendan Faherty, The Loring Family Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "Their coaching staff had a game plan and their players did a great job of following it."
Â
The Lions (9-3-3, 3-1-2 Ivy) scored once in the first half and then twice in an eight-minute stretch early in the second half.
Â
"We struggled to find our rhythm in the attack in the first half, and though we picked up our level of play in the second half, it was too big of a hill to climb," Faherty said.
Â
Yale (11-4, 4-2 Ivy) got on the board at 67:55 when
Lydia Shaw set up Chavarin in front.
Â
The Bulldogs applied heavy pressure over the final 20 minutes but were denied.
Â
The loss was a blow to Yale's hopes of an Ivy League title. The Bulldogs trail first-place Brown by three points, pending the outcome of the Bears game vs. Penn on Saturday night. A Brown win or tie against the Quakers would eliminate Yale.
Â
The Bulldogs host Brown next Saturday in the regular season finale at Reese Stadium. A win would very much keep Yale in the running for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
Â
"We will regroup quickly but also hopefully learn from this game, and put ourselves in a position to perform at a higher level against Brown," Faherty said.
