NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale men's tennis team concluded fall play this past weekend with the Connecticut State Invitational at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
Â
Longstanding doubles duo of senior captain
Dylan King and sophomore
Michael Sun started Saturday with a 6-3 victory over Fairfield but would fall in their second match against Boston College. Junior
Cody Lin and first-year
Louis Siegler were able to bounce back quickly after a 6-4 loss to Boston College to best Fairfield 6-4 in their second match. First-years
Daniel Gale and
Robert Shymansky also seemed to be uplifted by a boost in energy after the first round of doubles matches, fighting back in the second match against Dartmouth to come up just short 7-6(6).
Â
In singles play Saturday,
Shymansky, Dhingra, and Gale were defeated in close straight-set matches to begin the afternoon for the Elis.
Siegler, Lin, and sophomore
Alan Sou subsequently rallied to reach third sets in each of their respective matches, although
Siegler would be the only player to come out on top with a 6-4 victory over Boston College. In the next round of matches,
Sun and
King each battled hard against players from Dartmouth but would both be narrowly defeated with
King grinding late into the third set after coming back in the second. Meanwhile, senior sensation
Camille Kima dominated Sacred Heart to cruise to a 6-1, 6-3 victory, improving his record to an undefeated 2-0 on the weekend.
Â
On Sunday, the Bulldogs excelled on the singles court, boasting six singles wins.
King outlasted Dartmouth's Conklin in a three-set match while
Lin and
Dhingra followed suit and each won in close three set matches.
Sun defeated his opponent from Boston College soundly in a straight set victory before the next round of singles matches came on with another slate of three-setters for the Bulldogs. First-years
Gale, Siegler and
Shymansky each came out on top in the third over strong opponents, showing the strength and perseverance of the first-year class so early in their Yale careers.
Kima fell just short in a ten-point tiebreaker in lieu of the third set to be Yale's only third set loss on the day, albeit a shortened set.

Yale kicks off the spring season on Jan. 25 vs. Boston College.
