No. 16 Liberty Tops Yale 4-2

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- A penalty corner goal by junior forward/midfielder Olivia Levieux two minutes into the second half pulled the Yale field hockey team within one of No. 16 Liberty, 3-2, Saturday afternoon. But with the Bulldogs threatening the upset, the Flames held Yale scoreless the rest of the way and added an insurance goal for a 4-2 win at Liberty Field Hockey Field.

Yale (1-2, 0-0 Ivy League) fell behind 2-0 in the first 14 minutes, but cut the deficit in half when junior forward Anissa Abboud scored on a crossing pass from junior forward/midfielder Imogen Davies at 28:02.

Liberty (4-0, 0-0 Big East) answered less than 40 seconds later, as midfielder Lizzie Hamlett tipped one in during a penalty corner.

Yale junior goalkeeper Sydney Terroso made nine saves in the first half and 12 for the game. After Levieux's goal early in the third -- assisted by Davies and junior midfielder Sarah King -- however, the Bulldogs were held scoreless the rest of the way. Liberty goalie Allison Schaeffer finished with three saves, helping Liberty head coach and former Yale assistant coach Nikki  Parsley-Blocker earn her 25th career win.

Yale visits No. 6 Virginia Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
