Yale made another successful trip to Western New York.
Paolo Carroll, Mark Winhoffer and
Aldo Quevedo scored second-half goals as the Bulldogs overcame a 1-0 deficit en route to an impressive 3-1 win over Niagara.
Â
Yale, which opened the season with ties at Syracuse and Colgate, is 2-0-2 and off to its best start since the 2005 team started 3-0-3.
Â
The Purple Eagles (1-5-0) scored first at 24:06 and had the 1-0 lead after 45 minutes. The Bulldogs answered with a big second half. They outshot Niagara 7-2 and scored on three of the shots.
Â
"Every game is a fight, and this was no different," said
Kylie Stannard, The 5K Corral Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "Niagara is better than their record and this was an especially difficult road game. Credit to [Niagara] for capitalizing on a mistake from us and making things difficult. We didn't play poorly in the first half but needed to be sharper and faster in our passing. I was very happy with the response after halftime, and the team always felt confident we would score and find a way to win."
Â
Carroll's first goal of the season, assisted by
Sigfus Arnason, tied the score at 1-1 at 55:25.
Â
Winhoffer then added an unassisted goal at 72:58, and Quevedo scored a big insurance goal with assists from Winhoffer and Carroll at 87:54.
Â
"This was a good test for us in different ways than the previous games, and we handled things well overall," Stannard said.
Â
Through four games, seven different Bulldogs have scored at least one goal.
Â
"I like the depth of our roster right now, and we will need everyone to stay focused," Stannard said. "The grind of the early season continues with another busy week."
Â
Yale hosts Fairfield on Wednesday and Stony Brook on Saturday. Both are 7 p.m. kickoffs.
