Yale Increases Win Streak to Five

Bulldogs Beat Brown 3-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The win streak increased to five tonight after the Bulldogs pelted the visiting netminder with pucks. The Yale Women's Hockey team attempted 79 shots and put 44 on target in a 3-1 win over Brown at Ingalls Rink.

The Elis (12-8, 9-4 ECAC), who moved into fourth place in the ECAC standings with 18 points, used an early five-on-three advantage to grab the lead on an Elle Hartje one-timer from the side of the crease. The rookie center converted a feed from sophomore Claire Dalton, who had gone back and forth with Emma Seitz before moving toward the goal and finding Hartje.

"Getting on top early with a power-play goal was big for us," said Mark Bolding, Yale's Susan Cavanagh Head Coach. "We worked on the power play yesterday after not having much success over the weekend."

After outshooting the Bears 14-5 in the opening frame, Yale came out firing again in the second. Senior Sophie Veronneau broke through with the second tally after grabbing a pass from captain Laura Anderson, skating into the right circle and flicking a wrister blocker side on visiting goalie Calla Isaac.

Another Bulldog got on the board late in the second to make it 3-0. Sophomore Rebecca Vanstone, crashing the net from the right circle, used a perfect crossing feed from classmate Seitz (2 assists) to find the back of the net.

Yale junior goalie Gianna Meloni got the start and the victory in net, making 14 saves before giving way to rookie Courtney DeNaut (saves on 6 of 7 shots) midway through the third.

"We did a lot of good things, but made some mistakes and kind of laid back over the last 10 minutes," said Bolding.
