NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale swimming and diving programs have enjoyed tremendous success in recent years under the direction of
Jim Henry, the Robert J.H. Kiphuth Head Coach of the Bulldogs. The future continues to look bright as well as Henry has talented first years joining both the men's and women's program.
Here is a closer look at the Swimming and Diving Classes of 2024:
WOMEN
Before Yale: New York state runner up in the 100-yard breaststroke at Irvington High School… New York Section I champion in 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley… 2020 Most Outstanding Athlete in Section… Holds the Section record in the 200 IM… 2019 All-America selection as part of the 200 freestyle relay… Earned All-America consideration in 100 breaststroke, 200 IM and 200 freestyle relay in 2020… 2020 Lohud Westchester/Putnam Girls Swimmer of the Year… 2019, 2020 Rivertowns Enterprise Girls Swimmer of the Year. Swam for Empire Swimming… Senior National qualifier in the 100 and 200 breaststroke.
Personal: National Honor Society member… High School Peer Leader.

Before Yale: All-state selection in each of her four years swimming for the Harpeth Hall School… Part of the Independent Schools national record in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays… Part of the school record in all three relays… Helped lead Harpeth to national championship as a junior and state championship as a first year… Earned all-state recognition in cross country and track… Swam for the Nashville Aquatic Club.
Personal: Father played basketball at Rhodes College and is a member of the school's Hall of Fame.

Before Yale: Earned 12 New England Preparatory School Athletic Conference championships (four individual, eight relay) at Greenwich Academy… Part of the NEPSAC record-holding 400-yard freestyle relay… As a senior, highest individual scorer at NEPSAC Championships… Earned 12 all-league selections in her career… Multiple NISCA All-America selection... Helped lead Greenwich Academy to four NEPSCAC team titles… USA Swimming Scholastic All-American for her club program throughout high school… Junior National Champion and National Age Group record holder in 200 freestyle relay…Six-time Junior National qualifier… Earned three USA Swimming Top-10 National Age Group awards.
Personal: Father played basketball at Tufts… Grade representative on school community service board… Teammate Ali Turwit (Class of 2022) was a member of same club program… Co-president of school ambassador program.

Before Yale: Four-time selection to the NISCA All-America team at Avon Grove High School… 2019-20 Daily Local News Female Swimmer of the Year… Two-year team captain… Named to USA Scholastic All-America team in 2018… 2019-20 recipient of the BJ Howat Outstanding Swimmer of the Year Award… 2019-20 Avon Grove Outstanding Female Athlete… Helped lead Avon Grove to the 2017 Pennsylvania state championship… Member of Delaware Swim Team… USA Swimming Summer Junior National qualifier… Finished third in the 400 IM in the USA Swimming Winter Junior National East qualifier.
Personal: Older sister Olivia is a member of Yale women's swimming and diving team (Class of 2022)… Volunteer for Project Cure, LaMancha Animal Rescue and a Nottingham Green Swim Club Academic Tutor.

Before Yale: Swam for Crimson Aquatics… High School did not have a swimming program… Top times are: 50 free (23.98), 100 free (51.58), 200 free (1:51.18), 100 back (55.64), 200 back (2:02.32).
Personal: Taught girls with Rhett's Syndrome how to swim… Serves Thanksgiving meals at a youth homeless shelter.
Why Yale? "Quite frankly, Yale is my dream school. Not only is the campus filled with history and breath-taking architecture, but also with wonderful intellectual people. During my recruiting trip, I saw how tightly knit the team is and how much they support each other. I am thrilled to be able to be part of such a caring community."
Before Yale: Two-time All-America selection at Archbishop Mitty High School… Earned MVP honors twice… Competed for the Santa Clara Diving Club… USA Diving Zones and National qualifier from 2016 to 2019… AAU Diving National finalist, finishing in the top 12… Selected Northern California Diver of the Year in three straight years.
Personal: Volunteered at soup kitchens, peer tutored other students at Archbishop Mitty and served in senior care homes… Volunteer coach in Santa Clara Diving Club's Learn to Dive program.
Why Yale? For its academic and athletic prowess, the abundance of opportunity, and the amazing compassion and unity of the swimming and diving team I was able to experience during my visit. In my coming four years, I hope to glean as much as possible from the community of students, athletes, professors, and coaches, as well as contribute my own personality to the diverse mural of the Yale student body.
Before Yale: Washington Metropolitan Private School League Female Diver of the Year in 2018 and 2019 at the Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart… Earned NISCA All-America diving honors in 2018 and 2019… Two-time Washington Post All-Metropolitan first team selection… Helped lead Stone Ridge to 2019 National Catholic championship… Club experience with Montgomery Dive.
Personal: Took part in community service at Martha's Table in Columbia Heights section of Washington D.C.

Before Yale: Competed solely for the Greenwood Swimming Club… Selected New England Top-10 and Outstanding Swimmer three times… Club record holder in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles and the 200 individual medley… Third Overall High Point Award winner at the 2018 New England Seniors… U.S. Open qualifier in 2019… Two-time Scholastic All-America selection.
Personal: Volunteered at the Shrewsbury Public Library… Worked at the Shrewsbury Kumon helping younger children with reading and math.

MEN
Before Yale: Piscataway High School record holder in 100, 200 and 500 freestyles, 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley… Three-time GMC champion in 500 freestyle and two-time champion in 200 freestyle… State record holder in 500 freestyle, breaking a 34-year-old mark… MOC champion in 200 freestyle… Earned GMC Scholar Athlete Award… Swam for Somerset Valley YMCA… USA Swimming world top-100 swimmer… 2019 800 freestyle long course champion… Placed third in the 500 freestyle at the Speedo Junior Championship East… Received the Hannah Gonzalez Leadership Award, the Somerset Y's highest honor.
Personal: Three of his club teammates are swimming in the Ivy League - Victoria Eisenhauer at Harvard, Aziza Ganihanova at Columbia and Riley Pestorious at Brown.
Why Yale? "For the academic opportunities that it presents and the stellar swim team that Yale has. Yale really stood out to me because of the relationship between all of the YMSD athletes."
Before Yale: A 15-time All-American at the Brunswick School… Two-time NEPSAC champion… Eastern Interscholastic champion… National record holder as part of the 400 freestyle relay (SCM)… AP Scholar and National Merit Scholarship Program… Part of three NEPSAC Championship teams at Brunswick… YMCA national champion with Greenwich YMCA Marlins… Junior National A finalist and U.S. Open qualifier.
Personal: Traveled to different places throughout the year with the Boys and Girls Club, Audubon Nature Preserve and Horizons programs… Participated in Swim Across America fundraiser… Father rowed at Drexel University.
Why Yale? "Because of the strong connection I felt between the coaches and the teammates. Its community was incredibly welcoming and warmhearted during my visits to campus. Out of all the colleges that I visited, Yale felt most like home."
Before Yale: Earned All-America recognition at Lovejoy High School… Two-time Texas 5A state champion… Texas 5A state record holder… Holds numerous school records… Swam for Metroplex Aquatics club team… Sectional champion in the 400 individual medley… Olympic Trials qualifier.
Personal: Older sister Raime swims at Yale… Father swam at Stanford and mother played tennis at Stanford.

Before Yale: Three-time all-state selection at Saint Xavier High School, which won state championships in each of his four years and has now won 32 consecutive state titles… Five-time Scholastic All-America selection… Recipient of Sportsmanship Award… National Honors Society... Winter Juniors Championship A Finalist for club program.
Personal: Volunteer at The Salvation Army: Red Kettle, serving meals to the veterans, homeless, disabled and women and children.
Why Yale? "Attending Yale has always been my life-long dream. After meeting with the team and coaches, it reassured me that Yale was the place for me."
Before Yale: NISCA All-America selection at Bainbridge High School… Two-time Washington state 3A diving champion… Three-time school record holder… Helped lead Bainbridge to three state championships… Competed for the Bainbridge Dive Club where he was a three-time national qualifier for platform and springboard… Top-three diver at Regionals in 2019 on the 3-meter board.
Personal: Twin sister is a rower at the United States Naval Academy.
Why Yale? "I knew Yale University was the school for me when I first stepped on campus and immediately felt at home. It is a place where I can exceed both athletically and academically. I am excited to grow in and out of the pool and be a Bulldog these next four years."
Before Yale: Two-time state runner up in the 100 yard breaststroke at Starrs Mills High School… Earned three state championships as part of 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays… First team all-state selection… Holder of four school records - 100 breaststroke, 200 IM, 200 medley relay (breaststroke leg), 400 freestyle relay (anchor)… Most Valuable Swimmer in 2018-19… Most points scored on team in 2018-18… Panther Athletic Booster Club Scholarship recipient… Swam for Swim Atlanta for one year and the Southern Crescent Aquatic Team for eight years… U.S. Open qualifier in the 100-yard breaststroke… Five-time record holder for Southern Crescent.
Personal: Worked with Alzheimer's patients at nursing home… Grandfather, Giles Threadgold, won a national collegiate hockey championship at Boston College in 1949… Later became a NCAA hockey referee and worked a number of Yale-Harvard games… Also was an NCAA football official and retrieved the coin from John F. Kennedy after the coin toss of an Army-Navy game.
Why Yale? "When I stepped on campus, the wide scope of academic fields and facilities immediately caught my interest. I could feel the enthusiasm Coach Henry had for the swim team and the numbers don't lie. I look forward to being challenged to be the best version of myself in the pool and classroom by my coaches, teammates, and peers."
Before Yale: Competed at five USA Diving Junior National Championships and reached the finals in the 1-meter, 3-meter, and Platform competitions… Competed at four AAU Diving National Championships, placing first on 1 meter and platform at the 2019 AAU Red White and Blue National Championships.
Personal: Help out at a local shelter and fostered kittens.
Why Yale? "Because not only did I personally see who I was at Yale, but I also saw who I wanted to become."
Before Yale: U.S. Open and National qualifier with the Charter Oak Aquatic Club… World top 100 (No. 71) in the 1500 freestyle… Scholastic All-American sophomore and junior year… Record holder in the 500 freestyle and 200 individual medley at Avon High School… State Open qualifier as a first year.
Personal: Sierra Club former co-president and NHS member at Avon High School… Community service work in community farms… Took a service trip after first year biking around the Adirondacks and working with local communities (largely farms).
Why Yale? "Because of how at-home I felt with every aspect of both the swimming and diving program and the school itself. I loved the welcoming community build by the coaches and swimmers on top of academic resources and focuses that I am thrilled to tap into over the course of my next four years."
