Yale-Albany at Reese Saturday

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's lacrosse team looks to move to 2-0 on the season Saturday, hosting Albany at 1:00 p.m. (ESPN+) at Reese Stadium.

Last Game
Yale (1-0, 0-0 Ivy League) is coming off season-opening 16-12 win vs. La Salle at Reese Stadium. The Bulldogs opened with a 5-0 run that included three goals by junior midfielder Olivia Markert (Centreville, Va.), who went on to finish with five goals. The Bulldogs also benefited from five draw control wins -- by three different first-year players, midfielder Bri Carrasquillo (Alpharetta, Ga.) (two), midfielder JoJo Gum (Dallas, Texas) (two) and midfielder Anna Vetsch (Marcellus, N.Y.) -- in the first eight minutes to help control the tempo. La Salle chipped away at the lead, getting within three twice, but the Bulldogs had an answer each time. First-year midfielder Ana Dieroff (Fayetteville, N.Y.) finished with five goals and three assists.

National Recognition for Webster
The behind-the-back goal by Yale junior attacker Isabelle Webster (Towson, Md.) in the La Salle game earned recognition as the No. 4 play on the NCAA's Plays of the Week countdown.

Four (or More) Scores by Markert
Last Saturday's five-goal effort by junior midfielder Olivia Markert (Centreville, Va.) marked the second time in her career she had scored five goals in a game. She also has scored four goals three times. Here are her top performances:
  • 5 goals vs. La Salle 2/15/20
  • 5 goals vs. Marist 3/27/18
  • 4 goals vs. BC 4/16/19
  • 4 goals vs. Brown 3/16/19
  • 4 goals vs. Niagara 3/17/19
Not Bad for Starters
First-year midfielder Ana Dieroff (Fayetteville, N.Y.) had an eight-point debut for the Bulldogs. That was the most points by a Yale rookie since sophomore Olivia Penoyer (Manlius, N.Y.) had eight points vs. Columbia last season. That also marked the fourth time since the start of last season that a Yale first year has scored at least seven points in a game. Here is the complete list: Home is Where the Wins Are
Ten of Yale's last 12 wins have come at Reese Stadium, starting with a 14-9 win vs. UMass Feb. 24, 2018. The Bulldogs are 41-26 (.612) at home since the start of the 2012 season.

Just the Way We Drew It Up
Yale had a 19-10 advantage in draw controls Saturday. That marked the fifth time since the start of the 2019 season that the Bulldogs have had that many draws in a game. Last year's single-game high in draws was 22, and the Bulldogs finished with a school-record 243 draws for the season.

Scouting Albany
Albany (0-1, 0-0 America East) fell to No. 7 Syracuse 15-3 in the season opener. The Great Danes and the Bulldogs have engaged in some memorable battles recently, with each game the last three years decided by two goals. Yale beat Albany 12-10 the last time these teams met at Reese, 2018, when the Great Danes were ranked No. 24. Senior attacker Vanessa Yu (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) had a hat trick.
