CHARLESTON, S.C. -- First-year
Carson Swank produced his first collegiate multi-hit game for the Bulldogs in a 10-3 loss at The Citadel on Saturday.
The Citadel used early offense, including a six-run third inning, to earn its fifth straight win to start the season, while the Bulldogs fell to 0-2.
The Bulldogs put a run on the board in the fourth with a little help. Swank got the Yale bats going in the fourth with a leadoff single. With one out and Swank still at first,
Jake Gehri grounded into a fielder's choice.
Teddy Hague followed with a two-out walk. Both Hague and Gehri advanced one base on a passed ball, and later in the inning, both moved up on a balk to score Yale's first run.
Pierce Blohowiak, the next hitter, was hit by a pitch. With runners on the corners, Blohowiak induced a run-down that allowed Hague to score from third before he was tagged out between first and second.
Swank ignited another rally with a leadoff single in the sixth to produce a run for the Bulldogs. With one out, Swank stole second. With two out, Swank stole third and scored on a throwing error.
