CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Three Yale pitchers combined on a shutout and the Bulldogs exploded for nine runs over the final two innings to earn their first victory of the season.
A.J. Gaich broke a scoreless tie with a two-run double in the eighth and Yale added six in the ninth in a 9-0 victory over The Citadel. With the victory, the Bulldogs improved to 1-2.

Matthew Erickson and
Rohan Handa combined on the five-hit shutout for Yale. Gibbs started and went six innings, struck out four and allowed only three hits in a no-decision.
Handa (1-0) pitched the final 2 and 2/3 innings and allowed only two hits and a walk to earn the win. Handa got the Bulldogs through the seventh and the bats came alive the next half inning.
Later in the eighth, after Gaich's run-scoring double,
Teddy Hague reached on an error that allowed Gaich to score. In the ninth, Hague added a two-run single.
Harry Hegeman went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while
Carson Swank had two hits and drove in a run.
The Bulldogs return to action on Friday to begin a three-game series at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va.
