NEW HAVEN, Conn. – It was a great way to finish the home regular season careers for the nine seniors on the Yale Men's Hockey Team. Four different players lit the lamp and senior
Corbin Kaczperski registered 33 saves in the Bulldogs' 4-2 win over Colgate at Ingalls Rink.
The Elis got on the board shortly after celebrating their nine fourth-year players on senior night. A faceoff win in the Colgate end by
Brett Jewell got the puck in position for
Dante Palecco to one-time a slapshot from the top of the left circle inside the near post. The perfect way for the junior forward to celebrate his return to the lineup after missing the last three games with an injury.
The home team grabbed the lead back after a Raider tally evened things early in the second.
Kevin O'Neil passed the puck from the right circle to the point for
Phil Kemp, who blasted a low slapshot through traffic and past the stick of Colgate goalie Andrew Farrier at 4:58.
The score stood at 2-1 until 15:20 of the third when
Justin Pearson banged in a puck that bounced out to him after
Curtis Hall's deflection went off the pipe. Hall finished with two points.
"It was great to have four different players score goals," said
Keith Allain '80, Yale's Malcolm G. Chace Head Coach. "I thought we defended well and kept them away from our net."
The Raiders pulled their goalie with three minutes left, but Yale blocked two shots and then
Tyler Welsh found the empty net with 2:12 left to make it 4-1.
Yale, tied with Dartmouth for sixth place, completes its regular season by traveling to Princeton on Friday and then heading to Hamden to face Quinnipiac on Saturday. The Elis can finish anywhere from fifth to ninth and need just one point next weekend to clinch home ice.
