PRINCETON, N.J. – The Yale Men's Hockey Team clinched home ice for next week's first round of the ECAC Playoffs by scoring twice in 58 seconds during the second period and getting a 29-save performance from senior goalie
Corbin Kaczperski in a 2-1 win over Princeton at Baker Rink tonight.
Princeton scored the only goal of the first 37 minutes on the first night of the final weekend of regular season play. The Bulldogs finally got on the board at 17:20 of the second period off a face-off win by
Curtis Hall, who got the puck back to linemate
Justin Pearson. The sophomore winger immediately shot it through traffic and past Jeremy Forget to tie the game. Both Hall and Pearson got their 20th career goals in this game.
Less than a minute later, Hall was creating opportunity again. This time it was one of the most spectacular goals of the 2019-20 season. He took a feed from
Luke Stevens near mid ice and raced past three Princeton skaters before faking out a defenseman just over the blueline and then flicking the puck over the Tigers' goalie from the edge of the crease.
The Bulldog goalie took over from there to secure the win. Princeton had a 30-28 edge in shots and some of those came after pulling Forget for the extra skater.
"It was a great team effort, said
Keith Allain '80, Yale's Malcolm G. Chace Head Coach. "We were down a couple of players early in the game and behind on the scoreboard, but our guys really stepped up and got a huge win on the road."
Yale, which did not take a penalty tonight, needed one point this weekend to get post-season games at Ingalls Rink. The Elis will find out who is coming to New Haven after their game at Quinnipiac on Saturday at 7 p.m. The possibilities include Brown, Union and Princeton.
