SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Yale softball team got two very well pitched games on day two of the Silicon Valley Classic. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, they ran into some strong pitching as well. In its first game of the day, Yale fell to Colorado State 4-2 and in its second game, the Bulldogs lost to a very talented San Jose State team 3-0.
Against Colorado State,
Nic Conway struck out eight over seven innings in the circle.
Annie Tarte went 2-for-3 and scored a run.
Yale trailed 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning but rallied to push across a run when Tarte scored on an error after
Sydney Grobman's single.
The Rams tacked on two runs in the top of the seventh, which proved to be important. The Bulldogs pulled within two in the bottom of the seventh when
Olivia Vinyard's fielder's choice scored
Giovy Webb. Yale had the tying runs on base but couldn't do any further damage.
Against San Jose State,
Julia Grobman allowed only two earned runs and struck out seven.
The Bulldogs, though, managed only one hit against San Jose State pitcher Jenessa Ullegue. It was a single by
Katie Tews with one out in the sixth.
Yale closes out its stay in Northern California on Sunday vs. California Baptist. The first pitch is slated for 2:30 p.m.
