SANTA, CLARA, Calif. –
Annie Tarte and
Sydney Grobman each knocked in three runs as the Yale softball team edged Santa Clara 9-7 on the opening night of the Silicon Valley Classic. In their first game of the day, the Bulldogs dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker to Canisius.
Against Santa Clara, Yale scored twice in the first inning and three times in the second to seize control
Miranda Papes pitched four innings, allowing only two earned runs to earn the victory.
Olivia Vinyard and
Kortney Ponce also had RBI.
In the first game of the day, Canisius snapped a scoreless tie by scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth inning. Yale got one back in the seventh on Grobman's RBI double but couldn't push across the tying run.
Nic Conway tossed five scoreless innings in the circle, allowing only three hits, while striking out five.
The Bulldogs have two more games on tap on Saturday. They move to San Jose to meet Colorado State at 12 p.m. EST and San Jose State at 5 p.m. EST.
