LYNCHBURG, Va. –
Willa Ferrer won't soon forget her first career home run. Ferrer belted a game-winning shot to right field to lift Yale to a thrilling 7-6 victory over Hofstra on the second day of the Liberty Classic.
The Bulldogs dropped a 4-0 decision to Butler in their first game of the day.
Against Hofstra, Ferrer went 4-for-4 and knocked in two runs.
Annie Tarte also had two hits.
The Bulldogs had a 5-1 lead after four innings, but Hofstra scored four times in the fifth. After Yale scored in the bottom of the sixth, Hofstra again rallied to tie with a run in the top of the seventh, setting up Ferrer's dramatics.
Miranda Papes pitched two innings of relief to earn her fourth win of the season.
Against Butler, Yale was limited to three hits – singles by
Sydney Grobman, Katie Tews and
Olivia Vinyard.
Yale closes out play in the tournament vs. Elon on Sunday at 10 a.m.
