LYNCHBURG, Va. – Yale's stay at the Liberty Classic ended in heartbreaking fashion. Elon scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, capped by a three-run home run by Claudia Penny, to knock off the Bulldogs 6-4.
It was another big day for Yale first year
Willa Ferrer, who hit her second home run in as many days.
Giovy Webb and
Lindsay Kuss each went 2-for-2 with a run scored for the Bulldogs (4-6).
Carolyn Skotz and
Olivia Vinyard also had two hits, and
Annie Tarte added an RBI single.
The Bulldogs had a 4-0 lead when Ferrer homered to left field in the six. The Phoenix, though, scored once in the bottom of the sixth before the dramatic seventh inning.
Yale is back on the road next weekend, traveling to Clearwater, Florida, for a tournament.
