CLEARWATER, Fla. – Another tournament, more close games for the Yale softball team. Penn State scored twice in the seventh inning to knock off the Bulldogs 2-0 in their first game of the day, and Robert Morris edged Yale 2-1 in the second game. Both contests were part of the Clearwater Spring Break Invitational.
Yale gave Penn State of the Big Ten all it could handle in the opener. The game was scoreless through six innings until the Nittany Lions scored twice in the top of the seventh.
Julia Grobman pitched a strong game for Yale. She struck out seven.
Annie Tarte, Sam Goodcase and
Giovy Webb had hits for the Bulldogs.
In the second game, Yale grabbed an early lead on Robert Morris when
Sydney Grobman's single scored
Carolyn Skotz in the first innings.
The Colonials, though, scored once in the fourth and once in the fifth to pull out the victory.
Miranda Papes struck out four in six strong innings in the circle for the Bulldogs.
First year
Willa Ferrer went 2-for-3 at the plate for Yale.
The Bulldogs play two more games in the tournament on Saturday. They face Tennessee-Chatanooga at 9 a.m. and Army-West Point at 11:30 a.m.
