NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Yale University football was recognized with two Ivy League Players of the Week after the Bulldogs 42-28 victory over Penn on Saturday. Sophomore quarterback
Nolan Grooms was awarded the Offensive Player of the Week accolade while his classmate,
Jack Bosman, was honored as the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Making his first career start, Grooms set career highs across the board 396 total yards and four touchdowns. He went 18-of-27 in the air with 283 yards passing and two touchdowns while also leading the Bulldogs with 113 rushing yards and two rushing scores. He did not lose any yardage on 16 carries.
Bosman did it all for the Bulldogs on special teams. He went a perfect 6-of-6 on extra point attempts while also handling seven kickoffs with a 52.9 yards per kick average. Additionally, Bosman punted three times, putting one inside the 20-yard line. He leads the Ivy League with nine punts of 50 yards-or-more this season and is second with a 42.4 average and 12 kicks pinned inside the 20.
It is the first Ivy League weekly accolade for each player. Additionally, senior captain
John Dean was selected to the Ivy Weekly Honor Roll.
Saturday's victory snapped Yale's two-game skid which was the first time the Bulldogs had lost back-to-back games since 2018. The two losses came in overtime on the road and in the final seconds at a FBS opponent.
The win was also a milestone for head coach
Tony Reno as he became just the sixth coach in Yale history to reach 50 career wins.
The Bulldogs are back at the Yale Bowl this Saturday in a pre-Halloween game against Columbia on October 31 at noon.
