NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale Women's Soccer Team has two of its last three games of the 2021 season this week. The Elis host Central Connecticut tonight at 7 p.m. before heading to New York City for a Saturday, 3 p.m. game with Columbia, the last road league contest of the fall. Both contests air live on ESPN+.
Yale last played CCSU on Sept. 22, 2019, a 3-0 win by the Elis at Reese Stadium that included goals by
Chloe Laureano and
Ellery Winkler. A few months later in New York, the Lions posted a 3-1 win, which was the last Yale-Columbia meeting.
BULLDOGS
Yale is coming off a 4-0 loss at Penn last Saturday on a wet Rhodes Field.
Marisa Shorrock was in net for the Elis, trying to hand the Quakers their first home loss this fall. Shorrock, a sophomore walk-on this season, is one of three Bulldogs to play in goal this year.
Eight Yale players have scored goals, including four first-years, and six of the eight are underclass players. A pair of first-years,
Ellie Rappole and
Alanna Butcher, lead the team with two each.
BLUE DEVILS
Central is 10-5 overall and 7-2 in the Northeast Conference after a 1-0 win over Wagner last Sunday at home.
The Devils, who lost to Harvard 3-0 on Oct. 19, have six goals and 14 points from Roma McLaughlin and a 0.89 goals against average from goalie Amanda McQuillan.
LIONS
Columbia brings an 8-5-1 (2-3-0 Ivy) record into Saturday's game, coming off a 3-2 win at Dartmouth last weekend. The week prior had the Lions falling 1-0 at Princeton.
The light blue is led offensively by Nata Ramirez, who has seven goals and 18 points, while Paige Nurkin has had the majority of work in net and owns a 0.85 goals against average with an 8-3-1 record.
