NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's soccer team enters the home stretch of Ivy League play very much in the thick of the race for the league title. The Bulldogs enter Saturday's game at Columbia in third place with eight points but trail second-place Cornell by only one point and still have a match up with first-place Princeton to come. Kickoff for the game with the Lions is set for 7 p.m. at Rocco B. Commisso Stadium in Manhattan.
Here are notes on another important Ivy contest:
* Yale has still yet to allow a goal in Ivy play. It is the first time in school history the Bulldogs have posted shutouts in each of their first four league games.
*
Elian Haddock has been in goal for all 400 minutes of Ivy play. He has made 18 saves, including several with a high degree of difficulty, and has received outstanding support from Yale's back line. Haddock leads the Ivy League and is 28th in the nation with five shutouts. He also ranks 25th in the nation with a .787 save percentage.
* Overall, Yale has allowed just 14 goals on the season, which is tied with Princeton for the fewest in the league.
*
Paolo Carroll leads the Bulldogs in scoring with seven goals and 17 points. He is tied for third in the league in goals and tied for fifth in points.
* First year
TJ Presthus is the only Bulldog to have started all 13 games.
* Yale won the last meeting with Columbia, 2-0 in 2019 in New York.
Enzo Okpoye scored midway through the second half to snap a scoreless tie, and the Bulldogs added a goal in the final seconds to seal the victory.
* Prior to that game, the last 10 Yale-Columbia games had been decided by one goal or ended in a tie.
SCOUTING COLUMBIA
Like Yale, the Lions feature a top goalkeeper in Michael Collodi, who is 10th in the nation in saves per game (5.08) and 21st in save percentage (.792). Columbia (1-8-4, 0-2-2 Ivy) played a 1-1 tie with Dartmouth last Saturday and dropped a 4-1 decision to La Salle on Tuesday. Jake Novoshelski leads team in scoring with two goals and five points.
