Bulldogs Look to Extend Win Streak at Cornell, Columbia

Yale Wraps Up Ivy Road Swing

Carly Diehl and the Bulldogs travel to New York this weekend.

The Bulldogs look to extend their win streak with matches at Cornell and Columbia this weekend.

Yale improved to 12-5 overall and 5-3 in Ivy League play with a victory at first-place Brown last Friday. With the win, the Bulldogs tightened the conference standings with six matches remaining.

Kathryn Attar and Carly Diehl had double-doubles as Yale handed Brown its first Ivy League loss this season and snapped the Bears' 10-match win streak.  Attar was named Ivy League Player of the Week for her efforts.

Attar had 15 kills and added a team-best 19 digs.  In the fifth set, Attar had four kills including match point.

Diehl had 34 assists and 16 digs, while Audrey Leak had 15 kills, six digs and four blocks. Fatima Samb had 11 kills, hit .421 and added seven blocks.

Samb and Leak were named to the conference honor roll.

Yale will be wrapping up a stretch of five straight conference road matches and will host Penn and Princeton next weekend for its final home matches of the season.

Here are additional notes:

  • The Bulldogs had nine service aces against Brown.  Yale leads the Ivy League in service aces per set. Mila Yarich and Maile Somera rank first and second respectively in league play.
  • Yale also tops the league in allowing the least services aces by opponents.
  • Samb hit .421 at Brown and entered the week ranked second in the conference in hitting percentage.
  • In Ivy play, Yale has four student-athletes averaging at least two kills per set - Bonnie Bostic, Leak, Tiffany Pedersen-Henry and Samb.
  • Diehl ranks third in the Ivy League in assists per set.
  • The Bulldogs have hit into the least amount of blocks in the Ivy League.
  • Attar this week became the third Bulldog honored with an Ivy weekly award this year.  Yarich and Diehl were both named conference rookie of the week earlier this month.

Scouting Cornell

The Big Red enter the weekend 2-6 overall in league play, including a 3-0 loss to the Bulldogs in New Haven earlier this season. Madison Baptiste and Casey Justus rank among the top 10 in conference play in kills per set.  Rylee Baptiste was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week this week after posting 51 assists in a win over Columbia.

Scouting Columbia

The Lions begin the weekend at 2-6 overall in the Ivy League and have lost two straight since winning at Harvard on Oct. 16.  Yale defeated Columbia 3-0 earlier this year.  Noelle Foster leads the Ivy League in kills per set.
