NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Senior captain
Kayley DeLay (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) of the Yale women's cross country team has been named Northeast Region Athlete of the Year. The USTFCCCA announced the award Tuesday.
Â
DeLay finished 10th at the NCAA Championships this past Saturday in her home state of Florida, earning All-America honors in the process. She earned All-Region honors earlier this season, finishing second at the NCAA Regional at Franklin Park.
Â
This fall DeLay also won the Ivy League championship (her second in a row), earning first team All-Ivy League recognition.
Â
DeLay finished in the top 10 of every race she ran this year. She opened with a win at HYPs, her second straight time winning that race. She also won the XC23 Invitational at Virginia, helping the Bulldogs to a first-place finish at that event. Her win at the Ivy League Heps Championships with a time of 20:08.8 at West Windsor Fields was the second-fastest 6K Heps time in history for that course.
Â
Per
USTFCCCA records DeLay is the first Bulldog to win Northeast Region Athlete of the Year since
Kate O'Neill '03, who earned the award in 2002.
Â
Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches.
