NEW HAVEN, Conn. – It's Thanksgiving eve, but the Bulldogs had a team feast tonight inside the Whale.
The young and banged up Yale Men's Hockey Team got goals from four different skaters and assists from seven other players – a true team effort – to register its first victory of the season, 4-2 over Vermont.
"It was a great team win," said
Keith Allain '80, Yale's Malcolm G. Chace Head Coach. "We waited a long time between wins. It was valuable to the team to have to protect a lead in the third period and gut it out the way we did. It's a step in the right direction, and we have to continue to grow as a hockey team."
Defenseman
Ryan Carmichael got his first goal as a Bulldog and gave his team an early lead when his one-timer from the point whizzed through traffic. Eleven seconds later, defensive partner and captain
Graham Lillibridge jumped on a rebound in the left circle and flicked a shot past Tyler Harmon for a 2-0 lead.
Nathan Reid stopped 23 shots to earn the win in the Yale net. He allowed just one even-strength tally. The Catamounts got a power-play tally late in the first to cut the margin to one.
After a scoreless second,
Teddy Wooding gave the home team another two-goal cushion, but the Elis needed a
William Dineen (first career goal) empty-netter at 18:15 of the third to put the game away.
"The win was so huge. We played a great game as a team and stuck to it the entire time. and we look forward to building off that," said Wooding.
