Carpentier OT Tally Gives Yale 3-2 Win

Bulldogs win second straight game

NEW HAVEN, Conn.Ian Carpentier will always remember his first collegiate goal. That's because the sophomore from Worcester, Mass., converted a pass from Ryan Conroy in overtime to give the Yale Men's Hockey Team a 3-2 win over Dartmouth at Ingalls Rink in his fifth career game.

"Conroy made a great pass to me on the back door," said Carpentier, who gave the Bulldogs a second consecutive win. "I didn't do much, I just tapped it in."

That Carpentier goal capped a come-from-behind win as Yale erased 1-0 and 2-1 deficits.

"The guys were determined to come out on top tonight and I thought we deserved it," said Keith Allain '80, Yale's Malcolm G. Chace Head Coach. "We are getting to that spot [playing to our potential]. We've had a number of guys hurt, which has made it hard. There was a little more flow to our game tonight, but we are not completely there yet. We are moving in the right direction."

After the Big Green got the early lead, Reilly Connors tipped home a Dylan Herzog shot from the point for his first career goal. The visitors grabbed the lead again in the second, but William Dineen answered with his second goal of the year on a put-back at 7:31 of the third to even things again. Dineen's second goal of the year was special, not just because it was the second consecutive game with a tally. His father, NHL legend Kevin Dineen, was able to get a night off from his job coaching the AHL Utica Comets to be at the Whale,

Yale, with its first conference win, had a 26-23 edge in shots and Justin Pearson, whose speed and agility drew a penalty and nearly got him a few goals tonight, had four of them. He and his teammates helped Nathan Reid earn his second win in net with 21 saves, including a few quality chances.

"It was a great win for us. If we keep building off each other and play with heart, we can keep winning," said Carpentier.

The Bulldogs are back at it Saturday night at 7 when No. 17 Harvard comes to the Whale.
