Box Score MILWAUKEE, Wis. –
Teddy Wooding and
Henry Wagner scored third period goals less than five minutes apart to help Yale erase a 2-0 deficit, but the Bulldogs fell in overtime to Wisconsin, 3-2, in the Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off at Fiserv Forum.
The Elis, who nearly won the game late in regulation, take on Bowling Green tomorrow at 5 p.m. ET, while the Badgers face No. 16 Providence in the championship contest.
Wisconsin scored in the second and third periods to take a 2-0 lead.
Yale, which still skates a defenseman at forward due to a lack of healthy players, lost its top scorer in
Niklas Allain in the second period. However, this was not an injury. Allain was called for a major penalty and was sent to the locker room.
The Elis, who killed off the major that ran from the end of the second into the third frame, cut the lead in half at 8:25 of the third on a re-direction from the slot by Wooding. The sophomore winger got his stick on a shot from the point.
Briggs Gammill and
Cole Donhauser picked up the assists.
Less than five minutes later, and just five seconds after the Badgers killed off a major penalty, Wagner evened things with his first collegiate goal after a great pass from Wooding. A shot from the point bounced off the Wisconsin goalie to Wooding, who passed across the low slot for Wagner's quick touch into the back of the net.
Nathan Reid, playing in his home state for the first time as a collegian, stopped 21 shots. The Madison native came up with several quality stops before Wisconsin's Brock Caufield ended the game on a shot from the high slot in OT.
