Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Niklas Allain's team-high third goal of the year just 1:39 into the game against No. 17 Harvard gave the Bulldogs great hope of extending their win streak to three games.
However, the Crimson, ignited by four Yale penalties, responded with four straight goals, including a power-play tally, and then held on for a 5-3 win before 1,636 at Ingalls Rink.
With Harvard up 4-1 late in the second period, Cole Donhauser took a pass from Reilly Connors and went up the right side in the offensive zone before firing a low shot inside the opposite post from the circle. The score remained 4-2 until defenseman Brandon Tabakin got in on the scoring act. His first career goal came after taking a Donhauser pass and skating into the left circle, unleashing a shot past Harvard goalie Derek Mullahy.
Connor Hopkins and Luke Pearson combined for 26 saves in the Yale net as the Bulldogs were outshot 31-23 by a team with 11 NHL draft picks in the lineup.
I was really disappointed in our start," said Keith Allain '80, Yale's Malcolm G. Chace Head Coach. "We scored early and then took ourselves out of the first period with penalty after penalty after penalty. We put a dangerous power play team on the power play. We got it together and gave ourselves a chance to win, but you don't win hockey games by playing 40 minutes."
