Elis Host Busy Weekend at Reese

Beavers Friday Night, Raiders on Sunday

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The challenges continue at home for the young Yale Women's Soccer Team. After a pair of tough games to open the 2021 season, the Bulldogs get tested again this weekend with 4-0 Oregon State and 2-1 Colgate coming to Reese Stadium.

Yale and OSU square off Friday at 7 p.m. on Jersey Night (free popcorn for fans wearing jerseys), while the Raiders come to Reese Stadium for a 4 p.m. Sunday contest. Both games air live in the U.S. on ESPN+ and internationally on Stretch Internet.

The Bulldogs
The first 45 minutes of the season looked great for Yale with a 2-0 lead at halftime against Buffalo last Friday at home. However, the Bulls scored three straight, including the OT winner, which put a damper on the two-goal performance by Ellie Rappole, playing her first collegiate contest. The Bulldogs, who lost 4-0 at Quinnipiac two days later, had first-year Annie Welch in goal for both games last week.

Sarah Martinez, in her first season as the Loring Family Head Coach of Soccer, has had good signs since her student-athletes returned to New Haven this summer. "I believe in our group and I know when we start clicking, we will produce some fun soccer to watch," said Martinez.

Prior to Sunday's game, the Yale Soccer Family will celebrate its two Class of 2021 members, Alexandra McCraven and Christine Oberhausen, a pair of Connecticut natives who did not get to play their final seasons last fall.

The Beavers
Oregon State opened the year by beating Seattle, Fresno State and Idaho by a goal before cruising by New Mexico, 3-0, on the road last Sunday. Six different Beavers have hit the net, including Amber Jackson with three. Bridgette Skiba has earned all the wins in goal while posting two shutouts.

The Raiders
Colgate opened the season with 1-0 wins at home against Fordham and Eastern Michigan before dropping a 2-1 decision at LaSalle last Sunday. Ally Giovino (two goals) and Hannah Pinkus have done all the scoring, while two different goalies have earned starts. Emma Hickey, who is 1-1 in her two starts, has a shutout and has allowed a pair of tallies; Grace Poncsak posted a shutout in her one appearance.
