STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The Bulldogs took the final three sets at Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon and won their third match in a row. The scores of the match were 13-25, 30-28, 25-10 and 25-18.
With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 4-1 overall. Stony Brook fell to 3-6.
Tiffany Pedersen-Henry and Gigi Barr had 11 kills each, while Sam Bray added 10. Bray and Barr and combined on several key blocks in the later sets. Bray finished with a team-high six blocks and hit .471.
It was Barr who closed out a back-and-forth second set with a kill off a Renee Shultz set. Cara Shultz tied the set at 28 and a Seawolves error followed to give Yale control. Shultz hit .375 in the match with three kills and added 12 digs.
The Bulldogs hit .444 in the third set. Mila Yarich (6 kills) blasted a kill along the left side to give Yale an early 7-1 and the Bulldogs never looked back.
On defense, Maile Somera led the way with 18 digs, while Renee Shultz had 13 and Cara Shultz added 12.
Somera and Renee Shultz also led the way on serves. Both had four aces -- including match point from Renee Shultz.
The Bulldogs return to action later today to take on Tarleton State to close out the weekend at the Stony Brook Invitational.
