STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Four different Bulldogs had at least 10 kills as Yale wrapped up a perfect weekend with a 3-1 victory over Tarleton State on Saturday evening. The scores of the match were 17-25. 25-22, 25-18 and 25-21.
Yale improved to 5-1 overall and has won four straight, including all three matches this weekend at Stony Brook Invitational.
Gigi Barr was named tournament MVP, while Bonnie Bostic and Mila Yarich were named to the all-tournament team. And all three were key contributors in the win.
Bostic (13), Yarich (13), Barr (12) and Tiffany Pedersen-Henry (10) led the way on offense for Yale, which went 3-0 in three matches this weekend. Carly Diehl and Renee Shultz both had three aces for the Bulldogs, who had 10 total.
Maile Somera had 15 digs, and Yarich added 14 for a double-double.
Similar to their win earlier in the day over Stony Brook, the Bulldogs dropped the first set and recovered quickly. Audrey Leak gave extended Yale's lead to 11-8 in the second. Yarich kept it going with a back-row attack to keep Yale ahead at 17-14.
The Texans tied it up, and Pedersen-Henry broke a 21-all tie with a powerful spike into the right side of the court. Yale went on to take three of the last four points to tie the match at one set apiece.
Diehl closed out the third set with an ace, and the Bulldogs continued strong serving in the fourth. Shultz delivered back-to-back aces to get Yale to match point and Barr finished off the match with a kill.
The Bulldogs return to action next weekend at the UConn Invitational. The event begins on Friday with a match against NJIT at 4 p.m.
