Elis Have Non-League Set This Week

Yale Travels to UMass Before Hosting St. John’s

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale Women's Soccer Team continues its non-league schedule this week with a road and a home contest against quality opponents.
The Bulldogs are at Amherst, Mass., on Wednesday at 1 p.m. to play UMass before playing host to St. John's on Sunday at 1 p.m. for Youth Day at Reese Stadium.

THE BULLDOGS
Yale, looking for its first win, is coming off a 4-3 loss at Albany and a 4-0 loss at No. 9 Hofstra last weekend. The Elis had goals from first-years Alanna Butcher and Tina Teik and senior Reina Bonta in the Capital District during a contest they led twice.

First-year Annie Welch, who started the first five games this fall, made six saves against the Great Danes. Newcomer Maya Bellomo made her debut for the Bulldogs with 10 saves at Hofstra.

Yale opens Ivy League play at Princeton on Sept. 25.

THE MINUTEWOMEN
UMass brings a 3-2-2 mark into Wednesday's game after posting its second straight tie, a scoreless OT game with Northeastern last weekend. The Minutewomen earned their wins (UMass-Lowell, BU, Bryant) consecutively, after opening the year with losses to Penn State and Boston College, and now have a five-game unbeaten string.

Lauren Smida leads UMass with three goals this fall, while the goalkeeping duties have been shared equally by two players.

THE RED STORM
St. John's, which had its Sept. 12 game with Central Connecticut postponed by Covid-19, is coming off a 3-0 win over Delaware. The Red Storm have a tie against Columbia and an OT loss to Harvard on this fall's record.

Zsani Kajan, a grad student from Hungary, leads the team with an amazing nine goals and 20 points in six contests. That has provided great support for goalie Nava Lipkens, who has all the decisions and has stopped 23 of 29 shots on target.
