No. 22 Tigers Take 4-0 Game in Ivy Opener

Welch Kept Elis in the Game with Six Saves

Box Score PRINCETON, N.J. – Annie Welch made six saves and kept the Bulldogs in the game, but it was not enough to get a win at No. 22 Princeton, where the Tigers registered a 4-0 victory with all four goals in the second half of the Ivy League opener for both squads.

Welch, a first-year from Northbrook, Ill., made a diving save off a penalty kick midway through the first half and then, three minutes later, got her outstretched hand on a shot that was targeted for the right corner.

Those two big stops kept the game scoreless for the first 50 minutes, but the home team eventually broke through nearly three minutes apart with a pair of tallies.

Princeton, 7-1-1 overall, had an 19-9 advantage in shots.

The Bulldogs, whose best opportunity to score came on a shot from inside the 18-yard box by Alanna Butcher in the first half, open home league play a week from today when Harvard comes to Reese Stadium for a 4 p.m. contest.
