NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Bulldogs ran into one of the top teams in the ACC in their second match of the day at the Yale Invitational. Led by Marina Markova's 21 kills, Syracuse knocked off Yale 3-0 at the John J. Lee Amphitheater to improve to 5-0 on the young season.
Tiffany Pedersen-Henry paced the Bulldogs with 10 kills.
Maile Somera added 16 digs, and
Carly Diehl contributed 12 assists.
Spurred on by a very enthusiastic student section at Lee, Yale raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first set. The Orange, though, rallied to win the set 25-16.
It was Syracuse that started the second set strong, building a 7-2 lead. Yale mounted a comeback, closing to within 13-11, but the Orange held on to win the set 25-19.
Syracuse closed out the victory by capturing the third set 25-16.
Yale had won its first match of the day in impressive fashion,
knocking off Hartford 3-0.
The Bulldogs close out play in the Invitational on Saturday, hosting Quinnipiac at 4 p.m. Syracuse meets Hartford at 1 p.m.
