Staenz Going to Third Olympic Games

Former Bulldog skating again for Switzerland

LEKASANDS, SwedenPhoebe Staenz '17, the former All-ECAC Hockey forward from Yale, will skate in her third Olympic Games next month for Switzerland at Beijing.

The Zurich, Switzerland, native earned a bronze medal at the 2014 Winter games after scoring two goals. She had three goals and four points at the 2018 South Korea Olympics.

She is currently skating for Leksands IF in the Swedish Women's Hockey League and has nine goals and 15 points in 21 games.

Staenz, 2013-14 ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Year as a forward, finished sixth at Yale with 41 goals while hitting double digits in two seasons. Her 50 assists are seventh at Yale, while her 91 points are eighth in the school career record books despite playing just 20 games her first season because of a commitment to Team Switzerland.

Staenz was named national Rookie of the Year by U.S. College Hockey Online and The Hockey Writers in 2014, and she was selected to the New England Hockey Writers Division I All-Star Team.
