It was a very successful day for the Yale women's fencing team at the Philadelphia Invitational on Sunday.

The Bulldogs nearly pulled off the biggest upset of the collegiate fencing season but dropped a 14-13 decision to No. 1 Notre Dame in a bout that wasn't decided until the very end.

Yale did post impressive victories over two ranked opponents – knocking off No. 6 Northwestern 16-11 and No. 8 Temple 14-13. The Bulldogs also beat NYU 18-9 but fell to No. 3 Princeton 22-5.

Yale's saber squad was 4-1 on the day, including a 6-3 victory over Temple that helped secure the victory.

The Bulldogs are now 9-2 on the season and will next complete at the Ivy League Round Robin on Feb. 12-13 at Brown.

Yale was fencing for the first time since the Dec. 5 Brandeis Invitational. The Bulldogs' trip to the Penn State Dual Series was canceled last weekend.
