ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Bulldogs won their ninth straight match and closed out a weekend road sweep with a 3-0 win at Cornell on Saturday evening. The scores of the match were 25-23, 25-18 and 25-15.
Yale stands at 11-1 and 3-0 in the Ivy League with all three conference wins coming on the road.
A night after a 3-0 win at Columbia, the Bulldogs picked up where they left off.
Gigi Barr had a match-high 13 kills and hit .593.
Audrey Leak had 11 kills, while
Mila Yarich and
Cara Shultz each had eight.
Maile Somera had a team-high 15 digs, while Yarich and
Carly Diehl both had 10. Diehl also had 38 assists -- her second-highest total in a three-set match this season (she had 45 in the win at Syracuse).
Down 22-21 in the first set, the Bulldogs rallied and never looked back. Barr provided three of the final four points of the set with kills and
Renee Shultz added a service ace.
Yale took control in the second set and hit .438. Up 16-15, the Bulldogs finished off the set on a 9-3 run.
In the third, Yale jumped out to a 5-0 with kills from
Fatima Samb, Yarich, Barr, Leak and Shultz. Yale hit .545 in the closing frame with 19 kills.
The Bulldogs head back on the road next weekend with matches at Penn and Princeton.
