Fitzgibbon Shines at ECAC Championship, Bulldogs Place 16th

NEW YORK -- A contingent of the Yale women's cross country team competed well at the ECAC Championship meet in the Bronx Friday and placed 16th out of 34 teams. The Bulldogs were able to pack up in the middle of the race and posted a spread of almost 1 minute. The meet was a great way to prepare for the Ivy Heps Championship, also at Van Cortlandt Park, in two weeks.

First-year Carmel Fitzgibbon had an amazing day, coming in first for Yale in a personal record of 22:05 for 6k. She placed 25th overall in a field of 338 racers. Coming back from an injury, Fitzgibbon's improvement this season is a testament to her dedication and hard work. There is a lot to look forward to in the next few months.

Coming in as a tight pack, first-year Marisa Poe, first year Linde Fonville, junior Sophia Karperos and sophomore Kaity Chandrika were Yale's second, third, fourth and fifth finishers. Poe placed 85th with a time of 22:54 and Chandrika placed 102nd in 23:06. With a spread of 12 seconds between them, the pack really showed great teamwork today.

A pack of Bulldogs will be competing Saturday at the pre-national invitational at Oklahoma State University.
