Women's Soccer Plays to a Scoreless Draw With Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Yale women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw against Cornell at Berman Field. With the result, the Bulldogs moved to 5-5-3 overall and 1-1-2 in the Ivy, while the Big Red moved to 2-6-5 overall and 0-2-2 in the Ivy.

"Credit to Cornell. They made it very difficult for us to create opportunities to score today," said Sarah Martinez, The Loring Family Head Coach. "We tried to exploit the space in behind, but we couldn't get our timing right and had double-digit offside calls, which is frustrating."

How It Happened
  • Cornell applied much of the pressure in the first half but did not convert on any of their five shots.
  • Yale did find the back of the net but were called for a foul and the goal was waived off.
  • The Bulldogs elevated their pressure in the second half and made a final push in the winding minute of the game but were not able to capitalize on the attack.
  • Marisa Shorrock made timely saves that helped keep the Bulldogs in it. "Three shutouts in a row are a testament to the defensive organization and commitment from our whole team. Marisa was a hero late in the game with two big saves that kept us in it."

Notes
  • Cornell outshot Yale, 10-3.
  • The Bulldogs were called offside on 10 different occasions, which limited offensive momentum.
  • Marisa Shorrock posted her third-straight shutout in her fourth appearance this season.
  • Ellie Rappole had two of the Bulldogs three shots.

Up Next
Yale will host Penn in Ivy action on Saturday, Oct. 22 at Reese Stadium. "Our focus continues to be in creating and finishing our chances and we will get back to that this week as we prep for Penn," Martinez concluded.
