CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 15 Harvard scored twice in the first 10 minutes against Yale in field hockey action at Berylson Family Field Hockey Field Friday night. While the Bulldogs eventually settled in and held the Crimson scoreless for the game's final 25:46, by then Harvard had enough to claim a 4-0 victory.
Harvard (8-3, 3-0 Ivy League) just had a six-game winning streak snapped with a 1-0 loss to No. 10 Saint Joseph's Sunday. The Crimson bounced back quickly Friday, with goals by midfielder/forward Olivia Hoover and forward Emily Berlinghof in the game's first 9:43.
Yale (6-5, 1-2 Ivy League) had played three overtime games in its last four games, starting with a 3-2 OT win at Brown in the Ivy opener two weeks ago. The Bulldogs were outshot 4-0 in the first quarter Friday but closed that gap in the second, getting two shots to Harvard's four. However, a goal by Crimson defender Bronte-May Brough extended Harvard's lead to 3-0 at 18:54.
Brough scored again at 34:14 to make it 4-0. The Bulldogs held Harvard scoreless in the fourth, denying three penalty corners, but could not mount a comeback.
