NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After opening the season with a 55-point victory on Monday night, the Yale men's basketball team is in paradise for games two, three and four. The Bulldogs play in the Outrigger Rainbow Classic at the University of Hawaii. Yale faces Eastern Washington on Friday at 9:30 p.m. EST, Mississippi Valley State on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. EST and Hawaii on Monday at midnight EST. There only will be a video stream for Monday's Hawaii game, which can be viewed on ESPN+
Â
In the season-opening 96-41 victory over Sarah Lawrence,
Matt Knowling was 10-for-10 from the field and scored 20 points to lead a well-balanced offense. Fifteen of the 16 Bulldogs that saw action scored. Yale shot 57.4 percent from the field, while limiting the Gryphons to 26.2 percent. In addition, the Bulldogs had a 55-27 rebounding advantage and 29 assists on their 39 field goals.
Â
Yale won its season opener for the sixth time in the last seven seasons and captured its home opener for the 12th straight season.
Â
The Bulldogs, though, have enjoyed success more than just early in the season.  Over the last seven seasons, Yale has posted a 74-24 (.755) Ivy League record, won four Ivy championships, two Ivy League Tournament titles and earned four NCAA Tournament berths, including notching the first NCAA victory in school history – over Baylor in 2016.
Â
The Bulldogs won 19 games a year ago, captured the Ivy League Tournament title with a thrilling victory over Princeton in the championship game and earned an NCAA Tournament bid for the third straight season.
Â
Three starters from that team return, and there remains considerable depth and talent.
Â
Yale is making its fourth appearance in the Rainbow Classic. The Bulldogs won the 1969 event, defeating the University of Hawaii and the University of San Francisco in the first two games before earning a memorable 97-94 victory over LSU. Jim Morgan '71 scored 35 points for Yale, outdueling LSU's Pete Maravich, who scored 34.
Â
Yale also appeared in the 1975 and 1988 Rainbow Classics.
