Pitsenberger is the sixth Bulldog to be named Rookie of the Year since the award's inception in 1981. The previous winners were Todd Tomich (1997), Ed McCarthy (2003), Mike McLeod (2005), Zane Dudek (2017) and Griffin O'Conner (2018).
Reno, who completed his 10th season at helm this fall, has now guided the Bulldogs to Ivy titles in three of the last five seasons. His 2017 squad, which included 20 all-league selections, finished with a No. 24 national ranking after earning the Blue's first Ivy championship in 11 seasons. He also led Yale to a title in 2019, a season that was capped by a victory in one of the most memorable editions of The Game, a 50-43 double overtime victory over the Crimson.
It was a season to remember for the Bulldogs, who finished 8-2 overall and 6-1 in Ivy League play. Yale led the Ivy League in scoring offense (30.5 ppg.) and was second in scoring defense (19.5 ppg.). In addition, the Bulldogs were first in the league in rushing offense (232.8 yards per game) and total offense (412.8 yards per game).
