NEW HAVEN, CONN. —While most of the distance squad will wait to begin their indoor track seasons later in December or next semester, Yale senior cross country captain Samantha Friborg and junior Kyra Pretre will open at Boston University's annual Sharon Colyear-Danville season opener on Saturday.
This meet will feature some of the best teams from across the country and provides individual athletes with an opportunity to test their fitness in track events following the cross country season. The 5000m and 3000m races will include elite heats with some of the fastest collegiate and professional runners in the nation.
Friborg will compete in the mile, set to begin at 11:05 a.m. Her best indoor 800m time last year was 2:05.79. In the 2022 outdoor season, she set personals records in the 1500m (unattached) and 800m of 4:19.26 and 2:04.64.
Later in the day, Pretre will compete in the 3000m, which will be her debut race at this distance. Last year, she recorded times of 4:49.96 and 4:28.16 in the mile and the 1500m respectively. The 3000m sections begin at 2:13 p.m.
Senior Kosana Weir (who will gradate this December) will compete unattached in the 5000m. Former Bulldog Kayley DeLay '22 will be competing, also unattached, in the elite section of the 5000m. The women's 5000m races start at 4:30 p.m.
