NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's fencing team has fared quite well against nationally ranked opponents this season. The Bulldogs, who sit at No. 10 in the USFCA poll, have posted victories over No. 8 Northwestern and No. 9 Temple and lost a 14-13 heartbreaker to No. 2 Notre Dame. A few more wins over ranked opponents might earn Yale an Ivy League championship.
That's what it will take at the Ivy League Round Robin this weekend at Brown's Olney-Margolies Athletic Center. Princeton (No. 1), Columbia (No. 3), Cornell (No. 4), Harvard (No. 5) and Penn (No. 11) join the Bulldogs in the latest national rankings.
Yale begins play against Harvard on Saturday at 10 a.m. That is followed by matchups against Columbia (11:15 a.m.), Cornell (1 p.m.) and Princeton (2:15 p.m.). That means the Bulldogs face four of the nation's top five teams on the opening day. The final two bouts are on Sunday – 11:15 a.m. vs. Brown and 1 p.m. vs. Penn.
In addition to the team title, individual champions will be crowned in the foil, epee and saber.
