Offense Explodes in Extra-Inning Win at Washington

Bulldogs and Huskies Split Doubleheader on Saturday

Colton Shaw doubled home the go-ahead run in the 10th in an 8-7 extra-inning victory at the University of Washington as part of a doubleheader split on Saturday.

Mark Capell (2-0) tossed a perfect 10th and earned the victory for the Bulldogs, who dropped the second game 7-0.  Yale enters Sunday's series finale with a 2-4 mark on the season.

Pierce Blohowiak singled to open the 10th and scored on the Shaw double to right center.  The two teams traded runs in the ninth as Tommy Martin tripled home Jimmy Chatfield.

Yale exploded for 15 hits in the game one with nine different Bulldogs producing at least one.  Yale scored six in the sixth, sent 11 hitters to the plate and collected six hits in the inning.

Alec Atkinson went 4 for 5 with three doubles, a run scored and a RBI.  Shaw finished with three hits and drove in three runs, while Chatfield had two hits and two runs scored with a RBI.

Mike Walsh started the first game and struck out seven over 5 and 1/3 innings.  Mick Kelley came on to pitch 2 and 2/3 scoreless relief and allowed only one base runner.  He struck out four and walked one.

In game two, the Bulldogs rallied in the fifth trailing by a run but left the bases loaded.  Jake Gehri doubled down the left field line to start the inning.  With one out, Martin reached on a fielder's choice.  With two out, Gehri and Martin advanced on a wild pitch, then Mason LaPlante walked before the third out was recorded.

Yale had four hits, including one from Atkinson, Max Imhoff and Martin.  Shaw started on the mound for Yale and allowed one run over the first five and ran into trouble in the sixth when the Huskies plated four runs.

The two teams close out the series on Sunday.  First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 ET.
