Yale Topped in Nationally-Ranked Matchup at Brown, 20-13

Nine different Elis score but Bulldogs can’t overcome Bears’ offensive attack

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 5/4-ranked Yale University men's lacrosse team saw its four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon as No. 20/18 Brown outscored the Bulldogs, 20-13. All three of Yale's losses this season have come on the road with two against ranked teams.

Yale (7-3, 3-2 Ivy) was playing its sixth ranked opponent in 10 games this season and fifth nationally-recognized team in its past six games.

Both the Bulldogs and Bears (7-4, 2-2 Ivy) put forth strong performances in the first half with a tie game after one quarter (4-4) and a one-goal affair at the break (8-9), but Brown used an 11-5 second half to seize the win.

Nine different Elis scored in the game with 11 notching points, but Brown got four goals each from its two-three scorers.

"Brown beat us soundly and completely. They out-coached, out-hustled and out-played us. I was extremely impressed with their team," said head coach Andy Shay. "They deserved this one. Hopefully this is the humility we need moving forward."

Yale goalie Jared Paquette and Brown's Connor Theriault each had 15 saves, but the Bears were able to put seven more shots on goal while they also won the turnover battle, 19-10.

Sophomore FOGO Nicholas Ramsey had his second-best collegiate performance going 20-of-35 in the circle with 15 groundballs, as well as his first-career goal, but the Brown defense stood with 10 caused turnovers in the game.

Junior attackman Matt Brandau had game highs with seven points on four goals and three assists, but the Bulldogs only got its second multi-goal scorer with three seconds left in regulation as Thomas Bragg netted his eighth man-up goal of the season.

Senior captain Brian Tevlin had a three-point day on a goal and two helpers while rookie Leo Johnson rounded out four multi-point Bulldogs with a goal and an assist.

Rookie Chris Lyons, who started his collegiate career with four-straight hat tricks, was held off the scoreboard for the first time in his career but extended his point streak to six games with an assist.

After over three weeks away from New Haven, the Bulldogs return to Reese Stadium next Sunday, April 24, against UAlbany. Gametime is set for noon with fans able to watch regionally on NESN+ as well as ESPN+.

Yale's final three games of the season come at home with a midweek tilt on Tuesday, April 26 against local foe Quinnipiac before a pivotal Ivy League matchup against Harvard on Senior Day, Saturday, April 30.
