NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A pair of big innings lifted the Princeton softball team to a 9-1 victory over Yale in the first of a three-game series at 5K Corral Field at DeWitt Family Stadium.
The Tigers (17-13, 9-4 Ivy) scored four runs in the second and four in the fourth.
The Bulldogs scored their run in the fourth.
Alex Perren led off with a single, and
Sam Goodcase followed with a double to left center.
Willa Ferrer then ripped a hard single to center, scoring Perren.
Princeton pitcher Ali Blanchard, though, retired the next three hitters to avoid further damage.
Blanchard tossed a complete game, striking out eight and issuing walks to
Maddie Latta and
Gretchen Bunovsky.
The same two teams play a doubleheader on Sunday starting at 11 a.m. The first game will be televised nationally on ESPNU and the second game will be streamed on ESPN+.
