FINAL TIMES
DERBY, Conn. – The IRA Coaches Poll came out late this week and it had Yale at the top. Today, the Bulldogs showed why the results had them at No. 1.
The Elis, navigating high water and a fast river, kept the Olympic Axe at Gilder Boathouse by going for the early knockout before cruising to a five-second victory against No. 4 Dartmouth on the Housatonic.
Yale shot out of lane 2 and covered the first 800 meters in under two minutes. The Bulldogs, who made a few changes from the lineup that won the Albert Cup last Saturday, raced to separation from the Big Green boat about 2:55 into the contest. The visitors appeared to close the open water once or twice, but never managed a serious challenge as the Elis came in at 5:12.0. Dartmouth finished at 5:17.4.
Yale's long and powerful strokes insured the Axe remaining in Derby, where it has been since its inception in 2014.
The Bulldogs, who won four of the five races today, are back in action next Saturday at Philadelphia against Columbia and Penn in the Blackwell Cup.
