NEW HAVEN, Conn. – For the second-straight game, the No. 5-ranked Yale Universality men's lacrosse team put up at least 22 goals as the Bulldogs earned an Ivy League road victory at Dartmouth, 23-6.
It was a season-high in goals scored for Yale and the most since a 24-goal output against Quinnipiac in April of 2019. 16 Bulldogs found the back of the net, led by juniors
Matt Brandau and
Thomas Bragg who each had hat tricks. The six goals allowed are the fewest since UAlbany in 2019 when Yale held the Great Danes to just five scores.
"I'm pleased with our focus on a short week," said head coach
Andy Shay. "I thought our details were very good, and wehen that happens we spread the ball around."
In a tight first quarter, Yale trailed almost 10 minutes into the game before Brandau got the offense going. Dartmouth tied it at 2-2 as time expired at the end of the period, but Yale came out on fire to start the second.
Yale scored eight straight goals to open the second quarter while holding the Big Green to just one score. The Bulldogs followed it up with nine more in the third quarter. This comes just four days after the Elis set a program record with 11 goals in one quarter in their win vs. No. 13 BU on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs' staunch defensive effort was anchored by
Bryce De Muth who had three caused turnovers and four groundballs. The Big Green was held to just 17 shots on goal with Yale goalies making 11 saves.
Brandau finished with a game-high six points as he dished out three assists while all three of Bragg's goals came in man-up opportunities. Yale scored five up goals on the day, going 5-for-6 on Dartmouth penalties.
Rookie
Leo Johnson tied a career-best mark with three assists and was second on the team with four points. 10 different Bulldogs posted multi-point afternoons.
The Bulldogs cap their three-game road swing next Saturday, April 16, at Brown University.
